Unlocking Curious Minds

Te Pakarito is a pilot project that allows weavers, rangatahi (aged 12-16 years) and scientists the opportunity to explore each other’s understanding of harakeke/kete.

From that initial sharing of knowledge, we are investigating three new types of technologies that have been developed to strengthen and improve the longevity of harakeke products, in particular kete.

Some of the areas we are exploring are:

  • Weave types and methods of preservation
  • Coated harakeke, plastic composite harakeke and 3D printing of harakeke composite
  • Group investigations and proposed work streams
